Zarif's schedule in Thailand announced

TEHRAN, Mar. 09 (MNA) – Iran’s Ambassador to Thailand announced FM Zarif’s schedule for his visit to Bangkok as the 4th leg of his Asian tour.

Mohsen Mohammadi, Iran’s Ambassador to Thailand, said Wednesday on the eve of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to Bangkok that Zarif’s regional visit to eastern countries indicates the Islamic Republic’s special attention to this region despite the recent improvement in relations with the West.

Mohammadi referred to the visit of Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai to Tehran this January during which Zarif was invited to attend the 14th Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting (ACD MM14) in Bangkok scheduled for March 8 to 10 and hold a bilateral meeting with his Thai counterpart.

Zarif will also hold talks with representatives of other participating countries on the sidelines of the ACD Ministerial Meeting.

The Iranian diplomat is also scheduled to meet with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. He will also deliver a speech at a gathering of resident ambassadors and heads of delegation in Thailand, university professors and a number of Thai elites.

“Following the implementation of the nuclear accord and the decision of international communities to revive political and economic relations with Iran, Thai officials took advantage of this great opportunity by sending three high-ranking delegations to Iran in the past two months,” said Mohammadi, noting the remarkable presence of Thailand’s private sector in the composition of the visiting delegations to Iran.

During the visit of Thai deputy Prime Minister to Tehran on Feb. 2, six MoUs were signed between the two countries on nanotechnology, biotechnology, genetics and medicine cooperation, he added.

Iran and Thailand can cooperate in oil and gas, automotive, petrochemicals, infrastructure, household appliances, fishing, tourism and hotel construction, food industry and joint investment in a third country, he said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif will arrive in Thailand Wed. night following his visit to Indonesia, Singapore and Brueni.

He will then leave Thailand after his participation in the ACD MM14 to visit New Zealand and Australia as the last legs of his Asian tour.
